No other region combines these three terms better than the Kiel Fjord. Characterized by sailboats, cruise ships, sandy beaches, meadows, forests, lakes, cultural diversity, stately homes and the maritime capital Kiel.
The sea, art and culture along with buzzing shopping streets make Kiel a year-round destination for city breaks. The Schleswig-Holstein state capital in the Kiel Fjord also welcomes international business guests. The city's most popular boulevard is known as the "Kiellinie" and features an interesting array of boathouses, the aquarium and the sea lion enclosure. Fascinating harbor cruises depart from the railway bridge. Every year in June, Kiel Bay plays host to Kiel Week, the world's largest sailing event.
Kiel's old town district begins just a few minutes' walk south of the Steigenberger Conti-Hansa hotel. Enjoy the impressive and majestic turn-of-the-century buildings, such as the opera house and the main train station with its "Emperor's Portal". Warleberger Hof, Kiel's last remaining palace, was built prior to 1864 and today is home to the city museum.
